When I ask my clients, especially the female ones what they are trying to achieve through exercise, 90% of the time, the answer is I want to tone up – and why wouldn’t you? The problem lies in the face people make when you dare suggest that to achieve a “toned” body, they will have to gain some muscle.
Now I’m not talking Arnie Schwarzenegger muscles but the kind of muscles that give you beautiful, strong curves, the same muscles that will give you tone. If you just lose weight and don’t build muscle, you will be soft and loose without tone.
This is another reason why, I, like any other sensible trainer would suggest slow and steady weight loss whilst aiming to build some muscle rather than huge weekly weight loss and no muscle resulting in “Lucy Goosey.”…
So next time you say you want to “tone up” remember muscles = toned physique.
