Not everyone is comfortable talking about it but let’s face it, we all poo. It’s a natural human bodily function, so why is it such a taboo subject? The fact that we don’t talk about this topic means that so many of us suffer in silence.
Constipation or irregular bowel movements can cause misery, pain and discomfort. Being embarrassed to talk about this means that many people are not dealing with the problem. Taking some easy steps can help remedy this common age old problem. For some people, “normal” is twice a day whilst for others it’s once every two days. As long as your movements are regular you don’t have to worry. If you go once a day for weeks then don’t go for four days, we have a problem. Regular means regular!
There are so many factors that can be attributed to “bowel blockage.” First thing to look at is your diet and ask yourself are you adequately hydrating your body with water??? It is sooooo important that you drink lots of water and try and avoid excess alcohol and caffeine.
Then ask yourself, am I eating the right foods? Up your fibre intake and you are on your way to more rumbles in the jungle. Try bran in the morning or more wholegrain through the day and up your fruit and veg consumption. Try and eliminate highly processed food.
Regular exercise will really help to keep everything moving. For women, different times during our menstrual cycle can affect how our bowels work. You may also want to have a look at any medications you may be taking and speak to your GP as they may be having an impact on your movements…
Finally, when you have to go, you have to go! Don’t hold it in, act on the urge don’t fight it and this will also help to avoid constipation.
ALWAYS TAKE ADVICE FROM A GP TO MAKE SURE EVERYTHING IS ALL IN FULL WORKING ORDER.
